Elimu Savings and Credit Cooperative Society was resisted in 1972. The pioneers mainly being Ministry of Education employees. The sole purpose of its formation was to facilitate savings among members to access cheap, reliable, and affordable loans.

The principal organ of the Sacco is mainly the Board of Directors, who are responsible for directing the affairs of the Sacco and is overseen by the Supervisory Committee. Both report to the Annual general meeting.

Though Elimu Sacco mainly draws its membership from the ministry of education, it has extended its bond to accept members from different parastatals and government ministries.

Employees from educational institutions, employees of non-governmental institutions, and self-employed individuals can also acquire membership. It has since increased its membership and assets base, opening different branches across Kenya.

Branches of Elimu Sacco

Elimu Sacco is growing rapidly, and the membership is swelling. The management has therefore been triggered by this fact and opt to open several branches across the country. The branches are meant to take services next to the people without having to travel to the headquarters to access some essential services.
